Statins – a triumph of marketing over science?

Statins are big business. The miracle drug that helps prevent heart attacks and strokes is now estimated to be a $10B a year industry. Statins are drugs that lower cholesterol, but do they work? If you measure their efficacy in terms of reducing levels of cholesterol in the body, then yes, they do. But do they reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes? That’s a different story.
